As Convener of the Vanguard for the Independence of the Judiciary (V4IJ), Douglas Ogbankwa launched a public campaign demanding state governors comply with Section 121(3) of the Constitution by paying judicial allocations directly to heads of court.
BENIN CITY — Legal rights convener Douglas Ogbankwa, Esq., leading the Vanguard for the Independence of the Judiciary (V4IJ), has issued a national memorandum urging state chief executives to cease treating state judiciaries like administrative parastatals of Government Houses. Ogbankwa emphasized that true judicial independence is an illusion if Chief Judges must solicit funds for courtroom operations and judicial welfare from state governors. "Section 121(3) of the 1999 Constitution as amended is unambiguous. Funds standing to the credit of the judiciary in the Consolidated Revenue Fund must be remitted directly without gubernatorial interference," Ogbankwa declared at a press conference in Benin City.
